26.2 Miles? Check!
Yesterday was an amazing day. I have never had so much fun running a marathon. I have also never run a marathon surrounded by friends and I highly recommend it! We shared lots of laughs and lots of hugs along the route and I might have even shed a few tears! We had a great fan base spread out along the course which was wonderful. We started off by seeing Sweet Sally Sunshine in Brooklyn and ended by seeing TEAM GRANT at Mile 26 followed by TEAM JAMES at the finish. The support we had along the way truly helped ease the aches and pains we were feeling and it was also a constant reminder of why we were running this marathon in the first place. We were overwhelmed by the number of people who came out yesterday to cheer us on.
Thank you so much for supporting me and TEAM ROAR in our quest to raise money and awareness for Pediatric Cancer Research. Thanks to the generosity of friends and family of the 7 members of TEAM ROAR, we collectively raised over $110,000 ~ and we are still counting! This amount was beyond our wildest expectations!
As my teammate and friend of over 20 years, Steve, stated in his thank you note to his donors, “Hopefully, one day, no child will ever have to worry about being diagnosed with cancer and we can leave the running of 26.2 miles to the Kenyans!”
I personally would like to thank all 6 of my teammates: Speedy Reidy, the Aussie Tracey, Steve, Alex, Kate and Brynn. Without you, I don’t think I would have crossed the finish line! It was such an amazing feeling to place my NYC Marathon Finisher’s Medal around my daughter, Scarlett’s neck. She has been proudly wearing it all day.
Although between us TEAM ROAR took many steps, the most important step was the one that brought us that much closer to a world without cancer. Thank you all so much for your amazing generosity.
Love to all,
