An Update from Jennifer James from the 9th floor at MSK

Good Morning!  Scarlett’s daily blood counts just came back and she is still “neutropenic” which means her white blood count is really low. It’s actually almost zero- so she remains at a very high risk for infection. Until that moves up to .5 (it’s .1) we are calling the hospital home. We have done our best to make her room feel cozy. Your cards and notes are taped to the closet door, equestrian themed art decals adorn the walls and she has a soft pink blanket on her bed.  Tragically, we left “Pandy” in the procedure room yesterday and he cannot be located. Fortunately, PaPa came to the rescue.  He was able to get a replacement stuffed panda bear sent to Scarlett overnight so she should have it by tomorrow. Phew!

Scarlett received a platelet transfusion yesterday and is receiving a red blood transfusion this morning  Both are directed donations to Scarlett so that makes us all feel great.  Thank you again for donating blood and platelets!

Her spinal tap results came back ALL CLEAR for the 3rd time in a row which is good news!  She has remained fever free for her entire hospital stay which is great news!  We have been fortunate to be roommate free for the past 4 nights which means everyone is sleeping better – more good news!

Hopefully, Scarlett’s blood counts will improve soon. Then she will feel better. Her  body will be able to fight the germs causing the mouth and throat sores so she will be able to eat more comfortably and…. we will be  one step closer to coming  home.  I can’t wait to see her tucked into her own bed with Riley at her side. It will happen soon!

Thank you for your continued love and support. It makes each day a little brighter and a little easier.
