BGC Charity Day

13 years ago I was on the 55th floor of World Trade Center 2 working as an inter dealer broker for Garban LLC.  A few months earlier, I had left my job of 9 years at Eurobrokers which was located in the same building but on the 84th floor. That day would change my life and the life of so many others forever.  Reflecting back on that time, I thought it was the ultimate low point in the game of life.  I never imagined that an airplane would come crashing into my building, killing so many of my colleagues, friends and other innocent people.  It took a very long time to come to terms on why I was able to get out of the building unharmed that day when so many others were not.
1  year ago, Scarlett was diagnosed with cancer.  I have not been back to my office at BGC Partners  since Scarlett’s diagnosis – until today.  Today is a special day at work known as Charity Day.  Every September 11th, my colleagues at BGC Partners and Cantor Fitzgerald commemorate our 658 friends and colleagues and the 61 Eurobrokers employees who perished on that awful day.  100% of our global revenues are distributed to many worthwhile charities.  It has been an amazing way for us to honor and remember the lives of those that were lost on that tragic day while helping so many others.  My colleagues and the management at BGC have been incredibly supportive of me and my family throughout the last year and today is no different.  The Scarlett Fund was selected as one of the charities that will benefit from today’s fundraising.  100% of the money donated to The Scarlett Fund will go towards pediatric cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.  My friend, Bridget Moynahan,  will be the celebrity ambassador representing the The Scarlett Fund and will join many other celebrities and sports stars as we do our best to raise as much money as possible today. . I am sure that today will be a very emotional day for me as I take two tragic periods in my life and intertwine them into a day that is positive and uplifting because I know that we are helping others and making a difference.
